Privacy Policy

Learn about the journal, how to get in touch and the information behind our pages.

This notice explains how personal information is handled when you read AdmitMe, contact us or use the interactive features available on this website.

Last updated: 6 October 2026

1. Who is responsible for your information?

The website admitme.co.uk is operated by Sam Roberts, under the publication name AdmitMe. Sam Roberts is the controller of personal information handled for the website’s own activities.

Operator address: 3 Arncliffe Terrace, Whitby, North Yorkshire, YO21 2QJ, United Kingdom.
Email for all enquiries and privacy requests: info@admitme.co.uk.

The address identifies the operator. Our customer-facing contact channel is email; we do not offer telephone support.

2. Information we handle and why

  • Email enquiries: your email address, name if supplied, message and attachments, so that we can answer questions, investigate corrections and deal with collaboration or rights requests. Please do not send passwords, payment-card details or unnecessary sensitive information.
  • Website delivery and security: connection and request information such as IP address, browser details, requested pages, timestamps and search terms entered on the site can be processed by the hosting service to deliver pages, diagnose faults and protect the website.
  • Comments: where comments are open, the form asks for a name, email address, comment and optional website address. WordPress also records technical information for moderation and abuse prevention. An approved comment, display name and any submitted public website link can be visible to other readers. The comment form does not publish your email address. Avoid putting private information into a public comment.
  • Optional subscriptions or forms: if you choose to use an available sign-up form, the details you submit and your subscription preferences are processed for the purpose described on that form. Hostinger Reach is installed for form and email functionality. Sending an ordinary enquiry or posting a comment is not, by itself, a request to receive marketing emails.
  • Affiliate referrals: articles contain commercial links, including Awin links. Following one can give the network and retailer referral, device, click and transaction information for attribution. Purchases and bookings are completed with those third parties, not through an AdmitMe checkout.

3. Our reasons for using personal information

We rely on legitimate interests for responding to enquiries, maintaining a useful publication, moderating comments and protecting the site, taking account of your interests and rights. Where a request concerns a proposed agreement with you, processing necessary to take those steps may instead be based on that agreement. Information needed to meet a legal obligation is processed on that basis.

For optional marketing subscriptions we use consent where required. Any separate consent required for device storage or tracking must also be respected; see our Cookie Policy. You can withdraw marketing consent by using an unsubscribe option in a message or emailing us. Withdrawal does not invalidate processing already carried out lawfully.

4. Services and other recipients

Information can be handled by people authorised to administer AdmitMe and by providers of hosting, email delivery, forms, backups, security and technical support where needed for those functions. Hostinger provides the website hosting and the installed Reach integration. Read Hostinger’s privacy information for its own services.

Some article images are delivered by external hosts, including Unsplash and the featured brands. Your browser sends connection information to an external host when it requests that resource. If an avatar supplied through Gravatar appears with a comment, that service may also receive a request and an identifier derived from the commenter’s email address.

Awin and retailers handle their own referral and transaction processing. See Awin’s privacy notice and the provider’s policy before using its services. We may disclose relevant information where required by law or reasonably necessary to address a legal claim. A link to another website does not make its operator our data processor.

5. International processing

Third-party services can involve processing outside the United Kingdom. Hostinger describes its processing and transfer arrangements in its data processing addendum; Awin explains its arrangements in its own privacy notice. Where we arrange a restricted transfer, the applicable adequacy rules or other required safeguards, such as approved contractual protections, must apply. Email us to ask about the provider and safeguards relevant to a particular interaction. This notice does not claim that all information remains in the UK.

6. How long information is kept

Retention depends on why the information was collected. Enquiry records are kept for the time reasonably needed to resolve the issue and any related follow-up or dispute. Published comments can remain with the relevant discussion; you can ask us to review or remove personal information in them. Security records are kept in light of fault investigation, abuse prevention and the hosting service’s retention arrangements. Legal, accounting or dispute-related records may need to be retained for an applicable statutory or claims period.

For subscriptions, the relevant criteria are whether the subscription remains active, whether consent is withdrawn and whether a limited suppression record is needed to respect an opt-out. Backup copies follow the relevant backup cycle rather than necessarily disappearing at the same moment as a live record. Contact us for the retention information applicable to your data; the browser-storage periods we can identify are explained separately in the Cookie Policy.

7. Your choices, rights and complaints

Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restricted processing or a portable copy of your information. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests and can object to direct marketing at any time. These rights have conditions and lawful exceptions; for example, a record needed for a legal obligation or claim may have to be kept.

Email info@admitme.co.uk with enough detail to identify your request. We may need proportionate verification, but please do not send identity documents unless a necessary verification process has been agreed. Requests are handled within the applicable legal time limits, normally one month, with any permitted extension explained.

You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. You do not have to give up that right in order to contact us first.

8. Voluntary information, children and security

You do not need to subscribe or create a public account to read the journal. Providing enquiry or comment details is voluntary, but without a reply address or enough context we may be unable to respond or accept a comment. The journal is intended for a general adult readership; please contact us if you believe a child has supplied information that needs attention.
